Statistics on Virtual Worlds
I’ve been posting my thoughts and some news worthy items this week on a very interesting evolution in user experiences on the Internet which are virtual worlds. For the skeptics here that think virtual worlds are just a phase here are some interesting statistics.
- At the end of March 2008, approximately 13 million accounts were registered on Second Life
- In January, 08 residents spent 28,274,505 hours in Second Life
- 38,000 residents are logged onto Second Life at any given point.
- Tech Crunch reports that $345 million have been invested in virtual world startups so far this year
- Google has gotten into the virtual world space by launching Lively which is their own virtual world
- Other big businesses have shown interest by marketing in virtual worlds including Sony, BMG Music Entertainment, Sun Microsoystems, Nissan, Adidas/Reekbok, Toyota and Starwood
